High School Musical part 1 thrives at staying squeaky clean fun, reminiscent of the Bollywood musicals of India in which the boy and girl love pursuits sing throughout the streets yet never seem to be connected at the mouth. There's lots of hands holding, serenades and affectionate delights but nary a kiss.
For those not used to the traditional musical format, High School Musical part 1 might seem a little jarring because the songs come out of nowhere. Framing the story all around a school production enables the storyline to include some of these numbers straight in the plot. However a lot of the best songs come out of nowhere, putting everything on temporary stop and opening around the audience and supplying a number of effective choreography in the process. All round High School Musical part 1 is a great musical to watch with the youngsters.
